Past Simple

Formula:

V2 (second form of the verb) or verb + ed (for regular verbs)

For example: worked / went

Subject + verb in the second form (irregular verbs) or + -ed (regular verbs).

Example 1 (completed action):

I visited London last year.

Example 2 (sequence of actions):

He got up, took a shower, and left for work.

Example 3 (time expression):

She called me yesterday.

Past Simple vs Present Perfect

Past Simple describes a completed action in the past with a specific time. Present Perfect emphasizes the result or connection to the present.

I visited London last year. I have visited London.

Past Simple vs Past Continuous

Past Simple — a single finished action. Past Continuous — an action in progress at a specific moment in the past.

I watched TV. I was watching TV at 8pm.
