Present Continuous

1. How it is formed

Formula:

am / is / are + V-ing

Example: I am working / he is working / they are working

Subject + am/is/are + verb with the -ing ending.

2. When to use

For actions happening right now.
For temporary actions around the present moment.
For actions repeating during the current period.
Often used with markers: now, at the moment, today, currently.

3. Examples

Example 1 (action now):

I am reading a book at the moment.

Example 2 (temporary action):

She is staying with her friend this week.

Example 3 (action around the moment of speaking):

They are working on a new project these days.

4. Differences from other tenses

Present Continuous vs Present Simple

Present Simple describes regular, permanent actions. Present Continuous describes actions happening right now or during the current period.

Example: I read books every day. I am reading a book now.

Present Continuous vs Present Perfect Continuous

Present Continuous is for actions at the moment of speaking; Present Perfect Continuous is for actions that started in the past and continue up to now.

Example: I am reading a book. I have been reading this book for two hours.
