Be going to (Future)

Formula:

am / is / are + going to + V (infinitive)

For example: They are going to travel to Italy.

Subject + am / is / are + going to + base verb.

Example 1 (plans):

We are going to buy a new house.

Example 2 (prediction from evidence):

Look at those dark clouds! It’s going to rain.

Example 3 (intention):

I am going to start a new project next month.

Be going to vs Future Simple (will)

Be going to expresses pre-planned actions or predictions based on facts. Will is often used for spontaneous decisions.

Example: I will help him now (spontaneous). I am going to help him with homework (planned).

Be going to vs Present Continuous (future meaning)

Present Continuous is often used for specific arrangements. Be going to is used for intentions and plans.

Example: I am meeting my grandparents tonight (arrangement). I am going to visit my grandparents (plan/intention).
